Lakeland got back to the .500 mark in boys soccer Saturday morning with a 4-2 victory over host Prairie Heights at Hubert Cline Field.
Eric Carmona put the Lakers up 1-0 with a goal in the 22nd minute of the first half. The lead didn’t last long, however, as Marco Faltermeier booted home the equalizer for the Panthers just three minutes later.
A rebound shot by Sammy Garcia seven minutes before halftime restored the visitors to a one-goal edge. Dustin Cunningham then put the Lakers up 3-1 midway through the second half when he connected on a penalty shot.
Carmona’s second goal of the match with just over five minutes left extended the margin to 4-1. Spencer Lake tallied for Prairie Heights in the 75th minute to cut the final margin to two.
Lakeland keeper Marco Olivares made five saves in the win. Olivares also earned an assist on the first Carmona marker.
The victory lifted coach Jesse Ward’s Lakers to 4-4-1. Prairie Heights dipped to 6-2-1 with the loss.
