Lakeland boys outlast Churubusco

 

Lakeland outlasted Churubusco, 62-57 in double overtime last Friday night in NECC boys basketball.

The Lakers rallied to tie the Eagles at 42-all with an 11-8 surge in the fourth quarter. After both teams netted seven points in the initial extra session, the hosts put together a 13-8 spurt in the second overtime to secure their second league win.

Spencer Mortola, who canned 10-12 free throw tries, finished with 21 points to pace the Lakers, who now stand 5-11 overall. Marco Olivares chipped in 15 points, Chandler Mynhier sank 12 and Brant Betts, who was 8-8 from the foul stripe, ended up with 10.

Brent Simmons led a trio of Churubusco players in double figures with 14 points. Corey Sarrazin swished 13 and Landon Pence 12.
