Brant Betts fired in 21 points and Marco Olivares canned 17 as Lakeland handled Fremont, 73-49 in the NECC boys basketball opener for both teams last Friday night in LaGrange.
The Lakers, now 2-0 under first-year head coach Scott LaPlace, put together a 34-15 run in the middle two quarters to turn an 18-16 deficit into a 52-31 advantage going into the fourth period.
Betts, a 6-0 senior, was 5-10 from the field, including 2-6 from the three-point arc, and swished 9-10 free throws. Olivares, who went 7-11 from the floor, also grabbed seven rebounds.
Chandler Mynhier was the third Laker to score in double figures, as he netted 13 points. Mynhier led the victors on the boards with eight rebounds.
Tanner Oakley contributed eight points and Eric Herber five to the Lakeland scoresheet. Daemyn Priestley, Dustin Cunningham, Joseph Trost and Josh Collyer all put in two markers. Jacob Hendrix hit a free throw.
Cunningham topped the LHS steals chart with four. Priestley led in assists with three.
Wade Regadanz fired in 16 points to pace Fremont. Alex Beams finished with nine tallies.
