Concord and Mishawaka Marian each dealt the Lakeland varsity baseball team a setback this week.
Tuesday evening in LaGrange, the visiting Minutemen erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning and rolled to a 12-3 victory over the Lakers. Dakota Simon drove in four Concord runs with a pair of hits. Nick Wysong also had two safeties for the winners.
William Kelly’s two-run double in the sixth inning highlighted the Lakeland effort at the plate. Also poking a double was Hunter Sams. Dustin Cunningham and Kyle Casper each had a single.
Winning pitcher Seth Huxford struckout nine and walked four in four innings. Cain Crowley, Jake Stauffer and Preston Miller all pitched in relief for Concord.
Sams and Kelly both tossed three innings for the Lakers. They combined to whiff two and walk 16.
Tuesday night in Mishawaka, the host Knights of Marian bunched together three runs in both the fourth and sixth frames to post a 6-0 shutout of the Lakers.
Doubles by Aaron Pozivilko and Matt Hammond led the eight-hit Knight attack.
Casper, Dalton Schmidt, Ryan Oakley and Nick Byler had one single apiece for the Lakers off winning hurler Andrewe Price and relievers Reed Lewis and Bobby Norell.
Jalen Priestley worked the initial 4.2 innings on the mound for Lakeland and took the loss. Alex Pearson finished up.
