Lakeland Board discusses new admin building

The Lakeland School Board went over three possible layouts for the proposed district administration office at their Monday meeting.

Of the three designs, the board decided to pursue the one that included a full basement over a partial basement plan and one with no basement.

The board felt that the added cost of a full basement would be warranted as it would allow for easier future expansion and use of that space down the road.

Architect Kari Vilamaa put the estimated cost of the 4,240 sq. ft. building with a full basement at $865,000.

The building is being proposed on a site off of the southeast corner of the high school. The district feels the new location would provide for better public visibility. The new building will also be fully ADA compliant.

In other business:

The board accepted the resignation of Galen Mast as principal at Parkside Elementary. Mast was selected recently to be the superintendent of Churubusco schools. Susan Mueller was named as interim principal and retired administrator Paul Johnston was named as assistant to the interim principal. The district will look for a permanent replacement in the spring.
