Lakeland blanked Bethany Christian, 2-0 and Westview shutout Garrett, 3-0 in first-round action at the 1A girls soccer sectional in Emma Tuesday night.
Second-half goals by Rebecca Levitz and Rylie Lawrence lifted the Lady Lakers to victory. Levitz broke up the scoreless tie with a long shot from the right wing that eluded the grasp of Bethany keeper Carissa Woolace.
Lawrence tallied her insurance goal with 6:24 left in the match. Earning an assist on the play was Katie Levitz.
Lakeland goalie Jessica Hoover was credited with one save. Woolace had 14 stops.
Westview netted all three of its goals in the first 15 minutes of its match against Garrett. Riley Hochstetler booted in the first Lady Warrior tally with just 3:52 expired off the clock.
Tessa Zimmerly then struck twice within three minutes. Both of Zimmerly’s goals came on direct kicks of more than 30 yards in length.
The Lady Warrior midfielders and defenders kept the Garrett attack bottled up, resulting in no shots on goal for the Lady Railroaders.
Lakeland and Westview will square off in the second semifinal match Thursday night. The first semifinal bout at 5 p.m. will pit Central Noble and West Noble. The Lady Cougars advanced with a 5-0 triumph over Lakewood Park Monday night.
Winners of Thursday’s scrapes will return to Emma Saturday at 6 p.m. to play for the sectional championship and a berth in the 1A regional.
