Lakeland tuned up for the IHSAA baseball state tournament by whipping a pair of foes this past Saturday.
The Lakers tallied two runs in the fourth inning and three more in the sixth to leave Wawasee in the dust, 9-5. Morgan Moore drove in three runs with a home run and a single. William Kelly produced two hits and two RBI, Hunter Sams cracked a three-run double and Kyle Casper poked an RBI single.
Kelly went the distance on the mound to pick up the win. He scattered seven hits, walked two and struckout five.
In the second tilt, Lakeland used a three-run seventh inning to nail down an 8-5 victory at Elkhart Christian. Casper doubled home two runs and Dalton Schmidt tripled in another. Sams, Kelly, Derrick Dunn and Dylan Pranger all ripped RBI hits.
Sams, Dunn and Alex Pearson each took turns on the mound with Pearson notching the win. The trio combined to allow seven hits, walk four and whiff seven.
The two wins improved the Lakers to 9-18.
