Lakeland baseball team nips Wawasee

Nick Byler’s two run homer with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Lakeland past Wawasee, 6-5 in varsity baseball action Saturday.

The winning blow was part of a 3-3 day for Byler. He plated three runs in all and scored twice.

Austin Keckler drove in two runs with a single, while Dustin Cunningham netted two hits and an RBI, and Dalton Schmidt laced a double and a single.

Dylan Pranger, who took over on the mound for Keckler in the seventh inning, got the pitching win, his first as a varsity hurler. Alex Pearson started on the hill for the 6-15 Lakers. The trio combined to scatter eight hits, walk three and whiff nine.
