Lakeland baseball drops two at tourney

 

Lakeland fell to Beech Grove and Blackhawk Christian in a varsity baseball tournament played Saturday at Heritage Christian in Indianapolis.

Tyler Wyatt drove in three runs with a home run and a single in leading Beech Grove to a 10-2 victory over the Lakers in the first round. Nic Hendrickson, Zac Capps, Jordan Sloan, Jonathon Hicks and Andrew Sparks all lined RBI hits for the Hornets.

William Kelly had two hits and an RBI for the Lakers. Kyle Casper slapped a double and Morgan Moore plated a run.

Hunter Sams started on the hill for Lakeland and took the loss. Austin Keckler relieved Sams and pitched the final 3.2 innings, giving up one hit and striking out three.

Zach Zoellner got the win for Beech Grove. He whiffed 10 Lakers and walked five.

In the consolation game, Blackhawk Christian scored with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim a 2-1 triumph over Lakeland.

Casper, Dalton Schmidt, Jalen Priestley and Luke Miller each had a hit for the Lakers. Dustin Cunningham garnered an RBI.

Priestley gave up just two hits in 6.1 innings in taking the pitching loss.
