Lakeland approves high school roofing contract

Portions of Lakeland High School’s roof will be replaced next summer after the board approved a contract with the low bidder for the project.

Statile Roofing of South Bend had the low bid of $561,248, which included two alternate bids to replace metal fascia and replace air intake housing.

The initial estimate for the work was $1.2 million. Architect Kari Vilamaa told the board that the low bid could be due to the contractor wanting to ensure work for the summer. The high bid of the five received was $896,000.

The board looked at additional exterior designs for the proposed administration building that would be built in front of the high school.

Vilamaa told the board that the base estimate was around $650,000. Two of the options shown, which included two roof options, would add up to $55,000 to the base cost, Vilamaa said.

The board approved switching the spring elementary parent/teacher conferences to Monday, March 25 and Wednesday, March 27. The original dates were for that Tuesday and Thursday.
