Lakeland and Concord split a varsity softball doubleheader Saturday in Dunlap.
Jill Mingus smashed a three-run homer in the third inning and Ashlynn Grubb fired a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts in leading the Lady Lakers to a 4-2 victory in the opening contest. Morgan Meyers plated the other Lakeland tally with a single in the fourth.
Concord scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings and had the tying runs on base when Grubb induced a game-ending ground ball.
Both Meyers and Grubb had two hits in the win. Karissa Troyer, Ashton Miller and Madison Campbell joined Mingus with one safety.
Concord won the nightcap, 10-5. The hosts wrapped out 10 hits and took advantage of three Lakeland errors en route to the triumph.
Abby Bustos smacked a two-run double and Meyers lined an RBI single to fuel a three-run third inning for the Lady Lakers. Grubb and Mingus tacked on RBI singles in the seventh.
RaeAnn Miller logged the pitching win for Concord, striking out eight and walking four in five innings. Paige Gust took the loss for Lakeland, fanning two and walking one.
The split left Lakeland with a 13-4 record.
