LaGrange Library news for March

 

Calling all young artists through sixth grade! March is Youth Art Month and to celebrate, the LaGrange County Public Library would like to display local youth artwork in the library.

Just bring an original drawing, painting, or sculpture to the main library and it will be put on display. The artwork will be shown throughout the entire month, so the sooner it is received by the library, the longer it will be displayed.

The artwork can be picked up at the end of the month. Artists will also receive a certificate for their participation.

Tuesdays are Snooze Days…

Children will enjoy stories by authors famous for their illustrations and will get a chance to be artistic themselves at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. every Tuesday in March at the LaGrange library.

On March 6 children can hear Dr. Seuss’ classic Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now!

The story on March 13 will be Eric Carle’s From Head to Toe. Children will also be able to enjoy Carle’s famous collage work.

Mary’s Tigerwill be read on March 20. Come see how real Mary’s paper tiger can be.

Finally, on March 27 come learn what you can create with just one square with Michael Hall’s Perfect Square.

Movie of the month…

 On Friday, March 23, the LaGrange County Public Library will be showing “The Muppets” at 6 p.m. Come enjoy the movie with some free popcorn.

Wiggle into spring…

Get moving at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, with Troupe Svatura, a local group dedicated to belly dancing and other Middle Eastern styles of dance. This program will feature costume changes and energizing music and dance. The audience can join in on the dancing as well.

Novel destinations…

The adult winter reading program ends March 3, so be sure to turn in your passport for a chance to win one of these grand prizes: a set of luggage, a large pizza, or one of two $10 gift cards from an international market in LaGrange.

Sci-Fi Book Club…

The Sci-Fi Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 5, to discuss A Talent for War by Jack McDevitt. This meeting will be led by local patron Perry Porter.

Second Saturday Book Club…

The Second Saturday Book Club will meet at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, to discuss Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones.

Microsoft Word 2010 classes…

There will be a free Introduction to Microsoft Word 2010 class for beginners from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, and from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, at the LaGrange Library on Spring St.

Registration is required, so stop by the library or call 260-463-2841 ext. 1030 to register.

Participants must be able to type and use a mouse for this class.

 

 

 

Introduction to Windows 7…

On Saturday, March 17, there will be a free Introduction to Windows 7 class from 2-4 p.m.

Prickly’s Story Time…

Enjoy laughs, stories, crafts, and more with Prickly the hedgehog every Wednesday in March at the Topeka Branch Library.

There will be stories and activities designed for preschool age children on March 7, 14, 21, and 28.

Family movie night…

On Friday, March 2, the Topeka Branch Library will be hosting its family movie night featuring “Puss in Boots” at 6 p.m. Come enjoy the movie and free popcorn.
