The unemployment rate in LaGrange County was at one of the lowest in the state in May. Numbers released Friday by Indiana Workforce Development put the county’s rate at 4.5 percent last month, up slightly from 4.3 percent in April.
A year ago, the May 2013 rate was 6.1 percent.
The county saw an increase in the labor force and employed numbers, but also saw an increase of 61 people as unemployed for the month.
May’s rate puts LaGrange County 87th in the state unemployment rankings.
Surrounding counties remain higher, with Steuben County leading the region at 5.6 percent. Elkhart County had 5.3 percent in May, while Noble County had 5.2 percent.
Statewide, the unemployment rate remains unchanged from April into May at 5.7 percent, a full 2 percent lower than year ago.
