This past weekend, 250 residents from the LaGrange County area attended Parkview LaGrange Hospital’s Healthy Steps Fair.
The morning was filled with activities and screenings for people of all ages. HeartSmart CT scans, low cost blood work, as well as free bone density and hearing screenings were big draws for the adults. Blood pressure checks, strength testing, cancer information and screenings for sleep disorders were also available. Jamin Yoder, MD of Parkview Physicians Group-Family Medicine in Shipshewana was on hand to meet the participants and answer any questions they had about the screenings.
For younger visitors, staff provided free backpack sizing, games and an opportunity to learn about healthy eating by making their own trail mix – all of which were a hit with the kids. Two backpacks and two bikes were raffled off to four lucky young attendees.
Parkview LaGrange EMS, the LaGrange Fire Department, and the Department of Natural Resources were also on hand with tours of an ambulance, a fire truck and more. As always, a visit by Parkview Samaritan was one of the day’s highlights.
