WNIT Public Television will present “Power to the People,” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 16 on channel 34.1. This hour-long documentary was produced by WFYI in Indianapolis and focuses on 32 volunteers from 17 rural electric cooperatives who donated energy generation and transmission labor and materials to bring electric power to a remote mountainous region of Guatemala.
LaGrange County REMC’s Line Foreman Troy Sams and Lineman Chris Mynhier were part of the group that traveled to Guatemala to bring power to the people there for the very first time.
Many of the volunteers are electrical workers and cooperatives who live and work in the WNIT viewing area. This production captures the poignancy, humor and inspiration of this humanitarian initiative of Indiana’s electric cooperatives.
