LaGrange County Bar Association announces scholarship opportunity

 

Lisa M. Bowen-Slaven, president of the LaGrange County Bar Association, has announced a unique scholarship opportunity for law students who are residents of counties within the Northern District of Indiana.

First Midwest Bank, trustee of the Glenn D. Peters Trust, is seeking applicants for the Glenn D. Peters Trust 2013 Law School Scholarship. The trust, established in 1970, provides scholarship funds for law students attending an accredited law school. Applicants must be permanent residents of the Northern District of Indiana, including Elkhart, LaGrange, Kosciusko, Noble and Steuben counties.

Although need is considered, Glenn D. Peters Scholarship awards are based on past academic accomplishments and activities. Applications are available at the law office of Lisa M. Bowen-Slaven, 408 N. Detroit St. in LaGrange (the former Brick House Inn). Deadline is June 1, 2013.

HewasactiveintheaffairsoftheIndianaStateBarAssociation andservedontheStateBoardofLaw Examinersfrom1950-1955byappointmentoftheSupremeCourtofIndiana.

Inadditiontohisconsiderablelegalskills,Peterswasalso knownforhisloveoffishing,duckhunting,andtheoutdoorsm general. Hewasalsoanavidconversationalistandstoryteller.

HeandhiswifeGraceweremarriedforover50years.She passedawayshortlybeforehedid.Sincetheyhadnochildren,heleft hisentireestateintrustforthepurposeoffundinglawschool scholarshipsfordeservingstudentswhoareresidentsoftheNorthern DistrictofIndianaoftheUnitedStatesDistrictCourt.
