Lady Panthers crush Churubusco

Playing what head coach Kevin Frey termed as “their most complete game of the season,” the Lady Panthers of Prairie Heights steamrolled visiting Churubusco, 65-30 in NECC basketball last Saturday night.

Tressa Terry canned three of her five, three-point shots in the first period to help stake the hosts to a 13-9 lead. Terry, who recently returned to the lineup after recovering from an Achilles injury, finished atop the Lady Panther scorecard with 21 points.

Saige Dunafin and McKenzie Kain combined to swish five more triples in the tilt for Prairie Heights. Dunafin wound up with 12 markers.

With the Churubusco defense reeling from the perimeter barrage, Shawna Carbone began to find some room on the interior in the second half. Carbone netted 15 of her 17 points after the intermission, sparking a 37-13 finishing kick by the Lady Panthers.

Carbone snared nine rebounds for Heights, which improved to 4-2 in the NECC and to 6-4 overall.

Leading Churubusco with 13 points was Montana Martin.
