LaGrangeCountycontinues to see its unemployment numbers remain under 8 percent with the release of the July 2012 figures.
According to the Indiana Workforce Development statistics released Friday, LaGrange County ended July with a 7.7 percent unemployment rate, down 0.2 percent from June. The July 2011 rate stood at 10.4 percent.
The numbers from June to July changed very little, with only three added to the county’s labor force number, while a total of 29 jobs were added during the month. The report showed that 16 fewer people were unemployed in July over June.
A year ago, the county labor force was 15,868, which is 158 more than the current labor force. The July 2012 labor force was 15,710.
The number of residents unemployed in July 2011 totaled 1,644. As of July 2012, the number of those listed as unemployed in the county was 1,210, a difference of 434. The number of employed has risen from 14,224 to 14,500 in 2012, up 276.
Across the state, the unemployment average went up slightly to 8.2 percent. It had been at 8.0 percent in June.
The national average for July 2012 was 8.3 percent.
LaGrangeCounty ranks 55th in the state, and is even with Allen County at 7.7 percent.
ElkhartCounty continues to lead the region with 9.0 percent unemployment, with Noble County just behind at 8.8 percent. Steuben County had 8.5 percent unemployment in July.
