Josephine (Draper) Schrock, 84, of Howe, IN died Monday July 9, 2012 at her daughter’s home.
She was born December 3, 1927 in LaGrange, IN to William and Gena (Randall) Draper.
She was a 1964 graduate of LaGrange High School. She married James Schrock on August 18, 1948 in LaGrange, IN. He preceded her in death in 1992. Josephine was formerly employed at Kirsch in Sturgis, MI as a machine operator. She was the first woman at Kirsch to operate the machines. She was also the Union Steward. In the 1960’s, she initiated a girls softball league for LaGrange County. In the 1980’s she initiated the recycling project for LaGrange. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for many years and was on the traveling bowling league for Kirsch. She also provided snake venom for Multiple Sclerosis research. Ms. Schrock was the first woman democrat to be elected in LaGrange County as a Commissioner. She served 2 terms from 1992 to 2000. While in office she had legislation passed that all prisoners had to pay for their own upkeep and saved the county thousands of dollars.
She is survived by; 2 sons – James Schrock Jr. of LaGrange, IN and John Schrock of Howe, IN. 1 daughter - Jodie and (Jeff) Anderson of Howe, IN. 1 sister-in-law – Paula Draper of LaGrange, IN. 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband., 1 infant daughter – Jeanie. 3 brothers – William Draper, Donald Draper, Frank Draper. 4 sisters – Ida Mary Friesner, Rose Caldwell, Grace Jenkot and Frances Lung.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 11, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Carney-Frost Funeral Home, LaGrange, IN.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday July 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery. James Schrock Jr. will officiate.
