Joseph C. Peters Jr., 79, LaGrange, died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at his residence.
He was born May 29, 1934, in Ft. Wayne, Ind. to Joseph Charles Sr. and Evelyn (Martin) Peters.
Living all his life in LaGrange County, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1956 until his retirement in 1989 and was the LaGrange Postmaster for several years before his retirement. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy, a member of the First Church of God in LaGrange and LaGrange American Legion Post 215, and was a former member of the LaGrange Moose Lodge.
He was married July 17, 1955, in Angola, Ind., to Janet Lower. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Gary Heal, LaGrange, and Linda and Craig Weimer, Ligonier, Ind.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dennis and Tammie Peters, Indianapolis, Ind., and Martin Peters, Denver, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen Neuhouser and June Hughes, both of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and one brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Betty Peters, Howe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lorene Winchester and Naomi Peters, and three brothers, Raymond, Gene and Kenny Peters.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 24, at the First Church of God in LaGrange with Reverend Brian VanOsdol officiating.
Burial is in Brighton Cemetery, rural Howe.
