Joni J. Miller, 95, Shipshewana, died Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at his residence.
He was born December 31, 1918, in Sumner County, Kan., to John E. and Katie C. (Troyer) Miller.
He was married December 17, 1940 to Susie A. Bontrager. She preceded him in death on April 28, 2005.
Surviving are five daughters, Polly Anna (Ivan) Hochstetler and Mary Esther (Wilbur) Miller both of Topeka, Katie Mae (Lloyd) Yoder of Millersburg, Alta (Christ) Hochstetler of Shipshewana, Wilma (Dewayne) Yoder of Lagrange; two sons, Elmer (Mary) Miller and Vernon (Darlene) Miller both of Shipshewana; 40 grandchildren, 147 great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 15 step great grandchildren, five great- great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Alma Miller and Mary Edna Kurtz both of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers, Eli, Ammon, Christie and Willie Miller, two sisters, Susie Yoder and Mary Kurtz, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, son-in-law, Melvin Eash. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church, a farmer and later in life had a repair shop at his residence. Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on Thursday February 6, and all day Friday February 7, at the family residence, 1620 S 850 W, Shipshewana. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Saturday February 8, also at the family residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Elmer Yoder and the home ministers. Burial will be in Yoder Cemetery, Shipshewana.
