John A. Helmuth, 89, Topeka, died Friday, November 30, 2012 at his residence.
He was born August 15, 1923, in Arthur, Ill., to George and Susie (Schrock) Helmuth.
He was the owner-operator of a metal shop and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
He was married November 26, 1946 to Elizabeth Borntrager. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Wilma (Harley) Schlabach, Topeka, Polly (Glen) Graber, Millersburg, and Marietta (Lloyd) Schlabach, Ligonier; a daughter-in-law, Martha (Nelson) Schlabach, Topeka; five sons, LeRoy Helmuth, Shipshewana, Fritz (Tina) Helmuth, Topeka, Richard (Sara) Helmuth, Topeka, Ernest (Mary) Helmuth, Millersburg, and Dennis (Niva) Helmuth, Topeka; 47 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a half-sister, Katie Kuhns, Topeka; two half-brothers, Clarence (Susie) Schlabach, Dalton, Wisc., and Melvin (Ida Mae) Schlabach, LaGrange; a stepsister, Mary Ellen (John) Gingerich, Milford; a sister-in-law, Mary Helmuth, Goshen; 2 stepsisters-in-law, Maxine Schlabach, LaGrange, and Anna Roine, Sarasota, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Wilbur Helmuth, one granddaughter, one brother, and three sisters.
Services were held Monday December 3, at the family residence, 8365W 700S in Topeka, with Bishop Glen Lambright and home ministers officiating.
Burial is in Hawpatch Cemetery, Topeka.
