John O. Day, 88, died Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Parkview LaGrange Hospital.
He was born April 6, 1925, in Wolcottville, to Walter Young and Audrey (Day) Garlets.
He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1945-1947. He was awarded the WWII Victory Metal and the Army of Occupation Metal. He was a truck driver for Ohio Fast Freight from 1960 until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of LaGrange American Legion Post 215, the VFW, and the Teamsters Union. He used to race cars and also sponsored drivers.
He was married February 14, 1953, in Lapaz, Ind., to Margie Haag. She preceded him in death on September 2, 2013.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sandy Day, Ontario; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Danielle and Stephen Loveland, South Milford, Ind., Johnnetta Harper, Ontario, and Tammaria and Robert William Jr., Howe.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation is 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, December 12, at Carney-Frost Funeral Home LaGrange.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 12, at Carney-Frost Funeral Home LaGrange with Reverend Carldean Merrifield officiating.
Burial with military rites by LaGrange American Legion Post 215 will be in Ontario Cemetery, Howe.
