James R. “Wink” Winkler, 82, LaGrange, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at his residence.
He was born May 23, 1931, in LaPorte, Ind., to Ralph and Frieda (Sass) Winkler.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving as an Airman First Class from 1950-1954 at Barkside Air Force Base in Shreveport, La. Before his retirement he was a business administrator for 10 years at the LaGrange County Hospital, then worked at the State Bank of Lima in Howe for 24 years. He was a member of Lima Presbyterian Church in Howe and a 60-year member of LaGrange American Legion Post 215.
He was married November 22, 1958 to Mary Ruth Gray. She preceded him in death in 1984.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandra Meenen, Allentown, Penn., Linda Winkler, LaGrange, and Roberta Tuso, Allen, Texas; five grandchildren, Scott Meenen, Beth Meenen, Amber Deeds, Taylor Tuso and Brianna Tuso; one brother, Richard C. Winkler, Ariz., and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is noon-3 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Carney-Frost Funeral Home in LaGrange.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Carney-Frost Funeral Home in LaGrange with Jerry Stanner officiating.
Burial with military rites by LaGrange American Legion Post 215 will be in Riverside Cemetery, Howe.
