James E. Fanning, 91, Howe, died Monday, September 16, 2013 at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen, Ind.
He was born December 16, 1921, in Howe, to Glen Dewey and Grace E. (Kelly) Fanning.
Living all his life in LaGrange County, he was a farmer.
He was married May 8, 1943, in Howe, to Gwendolyn M. Swihart. She preceded him in death on August 20, 1992.
Surviving are three sons, Donald G. Fanning and Warren L. Fanning, both of Howe, and Ronald J. Fanning, Sturgis, Mich.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Prange, Evanston, Ill.; and one brother and two sisters-in-law, Robert and Sandra Fanning, Howe, and Barbara J. Fanning, Shipshewana.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ellsworth Fanning.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, September 19, at Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange.
Burial will be at a later date in Pretty Prairie Cemetery, rural Howe.
