Two men were arrested in Shipshewana last Wednesday when they were caught trying to sell stolen hogs at the Shipshewana Auction.
According to reports, 44 hogs were reported stolen from a barn owned by Thomas Bradfield near Logansport, Ind. A tip led authorities to believe the suspects may be trying to sell the hogs at the Shipshewana Auction.
The Shipshewana Police Department was contacted and investigated, finding that the brand on the hogs matched that of those stolen.
Blake Rigsby, 20, of Kokomo, Ind., and Derrik Bell, 22, of Walton, Ind., were arrested and taken to the LaGrange County Jail on preliminary charges of theft and receiving stolen property. Rigsby and Bell allegedly sold 34 pigs at the auction earlier this month.
Officials estimated the value of the 44 hogs at $3,500 to $4,000. The two men allegedly received $5,400 for the 34 hogs previously sold.
