Helen Marie Grossman, 90, Kendallville, Ind., died Monday, September 9, 2013 at her residence.
She was born July 10, 1923, in Angola, Ind., to Ursell Sr. and Helen Markovitz Holmes Cox.
She was a 1942 graduate of Kendallville High School and she and her husband owned and operated Grossman’s Hardware in Wolcottville from 1946-1980. They moved to Florida in 1980 and returned to Kendallville in 2001. She was a member of Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville and taught Sunday School at the Wolcottville United Methodist Church.
She was married January 25, 1942, in Decatur, to William Mac Grossman. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2012.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, William John and Brenda Grossman, Mableton, Ga.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Nancy Jones, Ft. Myers, Fla., Phyllis M. and Daniel Brothers, Sturgis, Mich., and Justine and Lynn Garrison, Kendallville, Ind.; 10 grandchildren, Mike and Candy Grossman, Heather Henderson, Ernest and Kaonna Blowers, Pati and John May, Susan and Dale Large, James and Kelaine Brothers, Kathryn Currier, Michelle and Tom Hague, Vicki and Andy Coats, and Lynn M. and Janie Garrison; one stepgrandchild, Cindy and Butch Ohner; 27 great-grandchildren, Jeff Gouker, Felicia Grossman, Andrea Grossman, Loreta Jo Henderson, Jason Blowers, Amanda VanZile, Logan May, Ariel May, Katie Large, Meaghan Large, Alex Large, Courtney St Louis, Austin St Louis, Shyanna Brothers, Reaundra Brothers, Sienna Brothers, Calyssa Brothers, Alanah Brothers, Mileah Brothers, Kyliana Brothers, Owen Hague, Christina Coats, Isaac Coats, Jacob Coats, Rayanna Garrison, Addison Garrison, Jalynn Garrison; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Robbie Hiles and McKenzie Ohner; seven great-great-grandchildren, Landon Marsh, Bella Blowers, Kathryn Blowers, Emre VanZile, Jackson VanZile, Lilly Ann Hiles, and Julianna Hiles; one stepsister and stepbrother-in-law, Pat and Dick Shoner, Danville, Calif.; a half-sister, Rev. Margaret and Arch Page, San Diego, Calif.; a special family friend, Helen Baird; and the family cat, Precious.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, Madge Cox, an infant son, James Mac Grossman, one brother, Ursell Cox, and a son-in-law, Frank Jones.
Private funeral services were held Thursday at Young Family Funeral Home Kendallville Chapel with Reverend G. Scott Pattison officiating.
Burial is in Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville.
