Lakeland softball standout Ashlynn Grubb has decided to further her athletic and academic careers at Valparaiso University starting next fall.
Grubb, who pitched and hit the 2011 Lady Lakers to the Fairfield sectional championship, already holds 10 school records heading into her senior campaign. Her career records include most pitching wins (50), strikeouts (742), shutouts (21) and hits (139).
As a junior, Grubb set single-season standards in pitching wins (20), strikeouts (290), shutouts (9), no-hitters (2), hits (62) and batting average (.549). She was also voted All-NECC for the third time.
“Playing Division I softball has been a goal I really wanted to accomplish,” stated Grubb. “I would especially like to thank (former Burr Oak H.S. coach) Denny Grey, who has been my pitching coach for nine years.”
Valparaiso posted a 42-19 record last year, which included a 19-5 mark in the Horizon League. “We are thrilled to have Ashlynn decide to make Valpo her home for the next four years,” said Crusader softball skipper Jordan Stevens. “She is a hard-throwing athlete who will come in and add a positive force to the pitching staff right away.”
Grubb plans on majoring in nursing at Valparaiso.
