The LaGrange County Council on Aging (COA) recently received a grant from the LaGrange County Community Foundation (LCCF) Caring Community for a power door.
The COA had applied for assistance with getting a power door that would provide better accessibility for wheelchair clients or those with limited mobility that would be visiting the new location at 410 E. Central Ave. The door has recently been installed and is up and running. There is also a ramp and steps available at the entry.
The previous doors were solid steel doors that could not be seen through and the COA decided it would be a smart idea to change the door. The door was a little expensive, but with the help of the LCCF they were able to have the door installed.
Making it easier for people to enter the building is very important. At the old location, staff would have to keep an eye out for someone in a wheelchair or scooter and then get up and open the door for them.
With the purchase of the new building the COA has a lot more space and better accessibility for those with limited mobility.
