Kyle Taylor scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Goshen a 5-4 varsity baseball victory over Westview Saturday morning in the Maple City.
The game was knotted at 4-all going into the Redskins’ half of the sixth. Taylor led it off with single, went to second on a bunt by Derek DeMeyer and took third on a single by Deric Haynes. Moments later, Warrior hurler Damon Miller uncorked a delivery to the backstop, allowing Taylor to scamper home with the go-ahead tally.
Westview got the tying run to third base with two outs when Chase Anderson singled and pinch-runner Jordan Stoltzfus raced to third on a Goshen error. But Redskin pitcher Jake Jesse, who relieved starter DeMeyer with one out in the sixth, retired Jamin Lambright on strikes to end the game.
Run scoring singles by Miller, Jeremy Hochstetler and Judah Zickafoose, and an RBI ground out by Tarrin Beachy in the first two innings staked the Warriors to a 4-0 lead. Goshen got one of the runs back in the second on a sacrifice fly by DeMeyer, and then tied the contest on a bases-clearing double by Austin Henke in the third.
Miller allowed seven hits, struckout one and walked five in taking the loss.
