Gordon E. Grabill, 73, Angola, Ind., died Monday, June 4, 2012 at his residence.
He was born March 22, 1939, in Angola, Ind., to Merle and Esther (Manahan) Grabill.
He started his teaching career in 1961 at Fremont Elementary School, teaching physical education and 6th grade. He became a high school guidance counselor at Prairie Heights High School in 1967, retiring in 1994. During his time teaching school, he was a very successful coach, winning several NECC titles in football and basketball. He was a real estate agent for Anchor Realty on Lake James since 1997. He attended Fremont schools and graduated from Orland High School in 1957. He graduated from Purdue University with a BS in physical education and Saint Francis University with MS in Guidance. He was a member of Sonlight Community Church in Angola and the National Association of Realtors. He was honored recently for 50 years of coaching at both Prairie Heights and Fremont schools, where he coached baseball, basketball, and football. He was also involved with 4-H.
He was married August 11, 1963, in Orland, to Janet M. Graham. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Jackie and Rick Hasty, Swayzee, Ind., Jennifer Grabill and her fiance’ Dustin Holden, Hudson, Ind.; a son-in-law, Rick Everidge, Stroh; and five grandchildren, Haylee Everidge, Cassten Everidge, Brooke Hasty, Jenessa Hasty, and Lucas Hasty.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Michelle R. Everidge, one brother, Gayle Grabill, and one sister, Marcia Adams.
Services were held Thursday, June 7, at Sonlight Community Church in Angola with Reverend Jason Rains and Reverend Paul Loucks officiating.
Burial is in Greenlawn Cemetery, Orland, Ind.
