Glenn Miller

 

Glenn R. Miller, 72, of Shipshewana, died Friday, March 30, 2012 at his residence.

    He was born July 19, 1939, in Garrettsville, Ohio, to Eli S. and Edna (Schmucker) Miller.

    Living in the Scott area for the last 50 years, he was a tool and die machinist and had worked at Syndicate in Middlebury for 35 years, retiring in 2000. He also supported missionary work in Benin City, Nigeria, West Africa for over 30 years.

    He was married October 30, 1960, in Nappanee, to Carolyn Hershberger. She survives.

    Also surviving are seven children, David (Dawn) Miller, Rome City, Marlin (Jami) Miller, Syracuse, Ind., Esther (Cliff) Miller, Shipshewana, Elaine Miller, Shipshewana, John Miller, Kendallville, Paul (Rebecca) Miller, Freemont, Mich., and Sarah (Sheldon) Yoder, Burr Oak, Mich.; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd E. (Anna Barbara) Miller, LaGrange, and Dale (Janet) Miller, Pennsylvania; and one sister, Rita (Clyde) Miller, Millersburg, Ohio.

    He was preceded in death one sister, Lois Thiessen.

    Services were held Wednesday, April 4, at The Calvary Chapel in Sturgis, Mich., with Pastor Tom Miller and Pastor Dana Stauffer officiating.

    Burial is in Calvary Chapel Cemetery, Sturgis, Mich.

    Memorials may be directed to the Glenn Miller Comprehensive High School in Nigeria, West Africa, The Gideons, or Parkview Hospice.
