Glen Oaks Community College will host “Expo ’14,” an event where the community is invited to visit the campus, meet and talk with the faculty, and experience the college through hands-on activities. The event will be held on Saturday, March 8, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
“This is the first time we’ve hosted an event like this,” said Tonya Howden, GOCC director of admissions. “We hope to raise an awareness of the programs, services and opportunities that we provide.”
“We invite the public to join us, as we have activities for guests of all ages,” Howden stated. “Glen Oaks has a lot of successful alumni who live and work in the community, and we encourage them to come back and visit with us as well as perspective students and the general public.”
“More than just an open house…Expo ’14 is where the faculty will be showcasing their areas,” said Howden. “Participants can critique the latest Super Bowl ads with the business department, meet Meti-Man, the state-of-the-art nursing simulation mannequin, or visit the art department where they can re-create their own Mona Lisa.”
Guided tours of campus will take place every half-hour. Students will be performing demonstrations in many of the labs, including automotive, welding, electrical technologies and the science labs.
Support staff will be on hand to answer questions about associate and certificate degree programs, admissions, registration, financial aid, dual enrollment, and student support services. Guests will also be able to explore career options through the Focus 2 Online Career and Educational Planning system.
The event is free and open to the public. The Glen Oaks Music Club will entertain guests and light refreshments will be provided. Handicap parking is available behind the gymnasium. The college is located at 62249 Shimmel Rd. in Centreville, Mich. Parking is free.
