Lakeland and The Howe School each fell in first-round matches Wednesday in the IHSAA girls tennis sectional at East Noble.
West Noble trimmed the Lady Lakers, 4-1. Nikki Chavez-Fearnow and Carlee Richardson downed Brianna Randels and Hannah Pfenning, 6-3, 6-2 in No. 1 doubles to earn the lone Lakeland point.
With the victory, Chavez-Fearnow and Richardson qualify for the IHSAA doubles tournament to begin next week at Northridge. Their opponents and date of the match has yet to be determined.
West Noble advances to the semifinals this Thursday where it will battle Central Noble.
East Noble blanked The Howe School, 5-0. The Lady Knights take on Westview in a semifinal battle Thursday evening at 5 p.m.
Winners of the semifinal matches return to Kendallville Saturday at 10 a.m. to vie for the sectional championship and a spot in the Northridge regional.
