Girls Sectional Results

Victories by a pair of freshmen and a triumph by the Westview 1600-meter relay team highlighted the LaGrange County effort at Tuesday’s IHSAA girls track sectional held in Kendallville.

Taryn Pruitt of the Lady Warriors captured the blue ribbon in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.42 seconds. Pruitt would also place third in the long jump (16-7.5) to earn a regional berth in that event.

Lady Laker rookie Kloee Fitch won the sectional shot put title with a toss of 40-11 feet. The mark broke the Lakeland school record in the shot put of 39-9 set in 1987 by Rosie Baldridge. Fitch already owned the LHS discus standard of 124-2 which she set two weeks ago at the Westview Invitational.

Speaking of the discus, Fitch finished second Tuesday night with a distance of 118-4, good enough to advance to next week’s Warsaw regional meet. Jacey Cauhorn of East Noble won the discus with a length of 129-10.

The Lady Warrior foursome of Grace Hales, Jeannie Bontrager, Tori Wisler and Maddie Jones combined to win the 1600-meter relay in a clocking of 4:14.08. Taking second place and qualifying for the regional with a time of 4:15.63 was the Lakeland unit of Massie Maskow, Elexus Holmes, Sheridan Flores and Ashlyn Maskow.

Three Westview sectional entries advanced to the regional with runner-up finishes. Hales took second in the long jump (16-10.75) and teamed up with Kathryn Lovell, Pruitt and Bontrager to claim second in the 400-meter relay (51.61). Jones, Kylie Barker, Kathy Franklin and Kaitlyn Warren grabbed second in the 3200-meter relay (10:16.69).

Bontrager placed third in the 100 meters (13.19) and fourth in the 200 meters (27.58) to garner regional berths in each event. Wisler advanced in the high jump with a fourth-place result (5-1).

Ashlyn Maskow finished second in the 300-meter hurdles (50.21) to snare a regional bid in that race.

Two Prairie Heights athletes extended their seasons by earning regional berths Tuesday. Aspen Dirr advanced with fourths in both the 1600 meters (5:33.72) and 800 meters (2:33.41). Tressa Terry took fourth in the shot put (37-1).

The Warsaw regional is scheduled for this Tuesday (May 27) starting at 6 p.m. The top three finishers in each event will earn a trip to the IHSAA state finals meet set for Friday, June 6 in Bloomington.

East Noble won the sectional team championship with a total of 115 points. Westview was second with 95.5.
