Two players from league runner-up Westview, two from Prairie Heights and one from Lakeland were named to the 2012-13 All-NECC girls basketball first team in a vote by the conference coaches earlier this week.
Freshmen Grace Hales and Maria McCoy were the Lady Warriors tabbed. Both rookies averaged around 10 points per game in leading Westview to an 8-2 NECC record, a sectional championship and a 15-9 overall slate.
Juniors Shawna Carbone and Tressa Terry represent Prairie Heights on the elite unit. Carbone paced the 10-12 Lady Panthers in both scoring and rebounding, while Terry was the squad’s top three-point shooter and led in assists.
Sophomore Abi Thompson was the Lakeland performer chosen. Thompson was the leading scorer and rebounder for the 5-16 Lady Lakers.
West Noble grabbed three spots on the first team. The Lady Chargers picked included junior Kelsie Peterson and seniors Haley Richardson and Ashley Shepherd.
Rounding out the first team were senior Rachel Rinehart and sophomore Claire Grubb of league champion Angola, juniors Jenna Kieper and Haley Brown of Fairfield, junior Miranda White and freshman Shae Rhonehouse of Fremont, and senior Lindsay Stoy of Hamilton.
Seven players received honorable mention votes, including senior Rebekah Frey of Prairie Heights and junior Brooke Yoder of Westview. The others were seniors Kylie Bidlack and Ericka Rinehart of Angola, sophomore Montana Martin of Churubusco, junior Lindsey Upp of Hamilton and junior Tiffany Simcox of Central Noble.
