George R. “Pap” West, 74, Orland, died Monday, March 10, 2014 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Mich.
He was born August 24, 1939, in Knox County, Ky., to Floyd A. and Nellie (Collinsworth) West.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Sturgis Foundry in Sturgis, Mich., after 33 years. He was a member of Stroh Church of Christ and Orland American Legion Post 423.
He was married March 24, 2003, in Gatlinburg, Tenn., to Susan (Hoerl) Martin. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Randy West, Auburn, Ind., and Scott and Melissa West, Stroh; three stepdaughters and one stepson-in-law, Christina and Todd Blaskie, Rome City, Tonyia Sawyer, Angola, Ind., and Teresa Sawyer, Angola, Ind.; two stepsons, Jon Martin, Howe, and Lloyd Sawyer, Wolcottville; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, including three great-granddaughters he was raising, Destiny Collins, Arianna Singleton, and Ivy Singleton; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Janice Bennett, Middletown, Ohio, Nancy Smith, Corbin, Ky., and Thurza and Harold Rodgers, Riverside, Calif.; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Floyd and Brenda West, Angola, Ind., Robert and Leanor West, Angola, Ind., Edd West, Woodbine, Ky., and Terry West, Corbin, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one stepson, Tommy Sawyer, one sister, Lavina Jackson, and a brother-in-law, Frank Bennett.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Stroh Church of Christ.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 14, at Stroh Church of Christ with Reverend Michael Hamm officiating.
