George William Brand, 91, Ft. Wayne, formerly of Kendallville and Wolcottville, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at St. Anne Home in Ft. Wayne.
He was born June 18, 1921, in Wolcottville, to George L. Brand and Elizabeth Baus.
Raised in Wolcottville by his grandparents, William and Ida Brand, he was a 1939 graduate of Wolcottville High School and entered the U.S. Navy, serving in the Asiatic Theatre during WWII. He was a Navy Seabee from 1943-1946. He was a retired division manager at Northern Indiana Fuel and Light Company in Kendallville, working there for 37½ years. He was a life member of American Legion Post 86, serving as Adjutant in the past. He was a past member of the Kendallville Kiawanis Club and a member of the First Christian Church in Kendallville.
He was married October 5, 1941 in Auburn, to Vivian Irene Schoup. She preceded him in death on August 22, 2007.
Surviving are one son, John and Mary Ann Brand, Ft. Wayne; four grandchildren, Katie and Rick Straub, Ft. Wayne, Ind., Stacy and Andrew Kean, Monroeville, Ind., Nicholas Brand, Ft. Wayne, and Jason Brand, Ft. Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Roger Lee Brand, and one sister, Maxine Baker.
Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Serviceswill be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville with Pastor Robert Farmer officiating.
Burial with military honorsby members of Rome City American Legion Post 381 and Kendallville VFW Post 2745 honor guardwill be in Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville.
