Garrett boys soccer drops Lakeland

Despite finishing with a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks, the Lakeland varsity boys soccer team suffered a 3-2 loss to host Garrett last Thursday in its 2013 season opener.

Sammy Garcia’s goal nine minutes into the match gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead. He was assisted on the play by Nick Byler.

Garrett netted markers in the 13th and 27th minutes to take a 2-1 edge. Garcia then tallied his second goal just before halftime to knot the count at 2-all. Eduardo Luna garnered an assist.

But five minutes into the second half, Garrett broke the deadlock with a goal. The hosts then made it stand up over the final 35 minutes to earn the victory.

Lakeland won the junior varsity match, 4-1. Cole Long, Humberto Garduno, Jon Anderson and Ismail Munoz netted goals for the Laker reserves. Collecting assists were Munoz and Pierce Baczynski.
