According to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department, Katie L. Bussard, 27, of White Pigeon, Mich., was driving a catering truck westbound at a high rate of speed on CR 700S near CR 1100W around 8:30 a.m. on June 21. The vehicle went left of center and Bussard overcorrected, the department noted. The vehicle went sideways off the north side of the road, hitting a tree stump.
The catering bed was sheared from the frame and the front of the vehicle hit a fence.
Bussard was removed from the vehicle by passersby who were concerned with leaking gasoline and venting LP gas.
Bussard was airlifted from the scene to Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne. Her injuries were listed as cuts and bleeding.
Assisting the sheriff’s department at the scene was LaGrange County EMS, Topeka Fire Rescue, and Parkview Samaritan.
