Frances Dickinson

 

Frances E. Dickinson,99, Sturgis, Mich., died Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Sturgis Hospital.

    She was born May 7, 1913, in Wolcottville, to Artimus V. and Carrie M. (Bower) Dickinson.

    Living in Sturgis, Mich., since 2002, she previously lived in Ft. Wayne and Indianapolis and her early life was spent in Wolcottville when the Dickinson family moved to the family farm to be closer to her grandparents. She was a 1932 graduate of Wolcottville High School and continued her education at the International Business School in Ft. Wayne, where she received an Associate’s degree. Following her graduation, she was a dental assistant for Dr. A.E. Eagles. Her career took her to Fort Harrison, where she worked as a dental assistant and eventually became a certified dental assistant with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Indianapolis, where she retired following 45 years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, Aldersgate Sunday School Class, King’s Daughter, Zeta Beta Chi Sorority, and the National Dental Assistants Association.

    Surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Carol Yoder of White Pigeon, Mich., and Terri Smith, Florida.

    She was preceded in death by two sisters, Erma Dickinson McDonald and Velma M. “Dickie” Dickinson.

    Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis, Mich., with  Chaplin Glenn Russell officiating. 

    Private burial will be at a later date in Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville.
