A friend of my town mom sent this to her. She liked it so I am including it this week in my column. Hope you enjoy it, too.
“He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds. He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea. He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason for being; by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.) When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant. His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to wait for me...whenever...wherever – in case I need him. And I expect I will – as I always have. He is just my dog." - Gene Hill
I like it except for the last line. I am not just a dog, I am a faithful friend and loyal companion to many people. I think Mr. Hill should have ended his comments by saying, “He is my dog, and I love him for being my fur-ever pal.”
I got a new harness this week. It is red, white and blue. I am ready to celebrate the 4th of July! I think I look pretty spiffy with it.
Remember if you make a donation to Ark, Paws and Claws Bookstore or the flea market booth at Shipshewana you can get a coupon for a free pup cup at Happiness Is Ice Cream in Howe. I plan on getting mine this week. I can’t wait. Also, put a paw print on July 17 for a special night at the Town Square in Howe for us dogs. Some activities for us to participate in and enjoy some ice cream, too. Be watching for more information.
A reminder with the hot weather to make sure you have enough fresh water and that your pal has enough shade to keep him comfortable if he has to be outside. Did you give your friend his heartworm and flea preventative this month? If not, do it now.
Quote of the week: “A dog will teach you unconditional love. If you can have that in your life, things won’t be too bad.” Robert Wagner
See you next week. Remember – fresh water and shade for your friend.
Your “fur-ever friend,” Buddy
