Four legs, a lick and a wag

Hi Friends,

Patches sent me this information about the Paws and Claws Bookstore.

They celebrated April fool’s Day, and now are celebrating Arbor Day, Earth Day and Gardening all during the month of April. I asked Patches how they came up with ideas for display, he said, you are not going to believe this but humans have a list of commemorative (I have no clue what that is, Patches doesn’t either) months that are used by groups to raise awareness about such stuff. Patches mom tries to match them up with books and interests of the people who come to the Paws and Claws. We are wondering when Bone Day will be?

I had a great week with my friends Gertie and Lucy. We played and played and walked and walked. Mom was on that spring break thing and she let me stay with Gertie and Lucy. I had tons of fun but I was glad to see my mom come home. She surprised me and snuck into the house and she said, “B –U-D-D-Y… B-U-D-D-Y …I came racing through the house and jumped right into her arms. She gave me the biggest smooch ever on the top of my head. I wiggled and ran out the dog door and then back in the dog door at least 10 times. It was really hard not to piddle on the floor, but I know better so out the dog door I went again.

I am so glad I found my mom and she loves me so. I can tell you this I will never leave home again. I am so safe and secure and well taken care of. I stayed right by her side the rest of the day, I didn’t count but I know I got extra pats on my head.

My mom’s friend sent her this poem about fostering a pet by Diane Morgan.

I am the bridge between what was and what can be. I am the pathway to a new life. I am made of mush, because my heart melted when I saw you, matted and sore, limping, depressed, lonely, unwanted, afraid to love. For one little time you are mine. I will feed you with my own hand. I will love you with my whole heart. I will make you whole. I am made of steel, because when the time comes, when you are well and sleek, when your eyes shine, and your tail wags with joy then comes the hard part. I will let you go not without a tear, but without regret. For you are safe forever. A new dog needs me now.

I really didn’t understand fostering, but my mom explained it to me and after reading this poem I understand what it is all about. She said there are many many animals at the Sanctuary that would love to be fostered. If you think you might be interested in fostering give the Sanctuary a call at 463-4142 to find out more.

The Sanctuary is having a first year open house on April 20th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Brian told me if you bring a donation of laundry soap, paper towels, bleach or money there is a special discount for a pet adoption. Come out and see all the changes and give and get lots of love from lots of my buddies.

The Paws and Claws bookstore will be at the flea market this summer, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. They are looking for some volunteers to help with the extension of the bookstore in Howe. If you are interested call 562-2100 and find out more! I heard my mom say they really need some help.

One last thing this week, check out this web site about therapy dogs, it is pretty cool. www.wimp.com/therapydog. I know from going to the hospital and nursing home how valuable therapy dogs are. Have a great week!

Your Friend,

Buddy
