Four legs, a lick and a wag

Hi, friends,

I had quite an exciting week! First of all when we were in the woods for our daily walk, I found this foot. It was huge and it was all I could do to carry, or rather drag, it to my mom for her to see. My big friend Gertie kept trying to take it from me but I wanted mom to see that I was the one who found it and brought it to her. She thanked me, patted me on the head and told me I was a good boy and a very strong boy to have brought it to her. I just smiled and wagged my tail and told her I loved her in our own special language.

My second experience was something that never happened to me before. Gertie and I were in the car at the woods and my little friend Lucy decided to be disobedient and run from mom when our walk was over. Mom started the car and backed down the drive to where Lucy was. She called and called but Lucy decided she wanted to go exploring.

Mom left the car running and while she was gone I found all these cool buttons to push. They were easy and did so many different things. I heard lots of different music; saw the blinkers going on and off plus all the windows went up and down. I didn’t realize how much fun I could have.

When Lucy and mom returned to the car the doors were locked. Mom said, “Buddy, unlock the doors.” She said that quite a few times but I thought it was fun keeping them locked and changing the music lots of times. I don’t think she was real happy.

She went back into the woods to find a stick to put through the back window that was down just a little and I thought she wanted to play. So, that is what I did. I pulled at the stick and broke just a little piece off. Mom went back into the woods and got another bigger stick. She pushed a button and zap, the doors unlocked. I thought it was fun I hope we get to do it again some time. I think I overheard her saying she was getting an extra key or something? I don’t know how she is going to use two keys. Guess I will just have to wait and see. Do you think that means more buttons I can push?

I have lots of people to thank for this week. We have been so blessed at Paws and Claws Bookstore and the Ark Sanctuary. First of all, thanks to the LaGrange Community Foundation for donating a computer to Paws and Claws Bookstore. It has been great fun watching it work and seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces.

We also had some furniture donated to replace the furniture that has been at the bookstore for quite some time. I must say it looks pretty spiffy.

We are very proud to announce we will be at the Shipshewana Flea Market this summer near gate #11 with an extension of the Paws and Claws Bookstore. So we can use some more good, used books. Time to clean out your bookcases!

We were able to raise $506 at Miller’s Super Valu this past week. Miller’s allowed us to set up a table and we had bones, calendars, carnations and kerchiefs for donation. Someone said it was Valentine’s Day. Thanks, Dan, you are a great guy!

You know what else? Carney’s Floral donated all our carnations! Wow!

Also, a thank you to all who donated or just gave us a smile and said “good luck.” I also heard several say “that is where I got my dog.” A gal came through and gave us a dog quilt. She said she wanted to donate it to us so we could use it as a fundraiser. Be looking next week to see how you can get a ticket to win the quilt!

Last, but by no means least, are all the new volunteers that have stepped up to help at the bookstore! Wiggles and wags to all of you plus a really high five.

My mom said it was a great week for the bookstore and sanctuary. I think this will help her forget about the locked car – at least I hope so!

The stories are rolling in for Buddy’s Buds book. If you hurry, you can still submit a story.

I hope your week was good and if by some strange occurrence you have not stopped by the bookstore or sanctuary, put it on your bucket list for this week. See you next week, drop me a line.

                Your friend, Buddy
