Former LaGrange County resident attends White House press conference

Amy Deal’s teaching career has led her from one end of the U.S. to the other. And earlier this month, it led her to the White House.

On January 9, President Obama was holding a press conference to announce a Promise Zone initiative, which included students and teachers from Promise Schools. Deal, along with the other representatives, had a chance to personally meet the President in the White House Blue Room prior to the press conference.

Currently, Deal teaches at the Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy in Manhattan, N.Y. She was picked by her principal to represent the school at the press conference.

Deal is a 1999 graduate of Westview High School and went on to get a degree from Bowling Green University in Ohio. Deal spent seven years teaching in Los Angeles, Calif., and has been at the Promise Academy for two years. She currently teaches 5th and 6th grades at the school.

Deal is the daughter of David Deal and Julia Rubinstein of LaGrange County.
