Floyd Handshoe

Floyd C. Handshoe, 88, LaGrange, died Thursday, December 18, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Ft. Wayne, Ind.

    He was born January 21, 1926, in Quicksand, Ky., to Floyd and Mary (Watkins) Handshoe.

    Living in the area most of his life, coming from Kentucky, he was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army with the 35th Division of the 82nd Airborne Infantry. He was a double Purple Heart recipient. He retired from the Sturgis Foundry in Sturgis, Mich., then was a security guard for Dometic in LaGrange and recently retired in October after 26 years. He was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church in Rome City.

    He was married September 17, 1960, in Hindman, Ky., to Ines Jacobs.  She survives.

    Also surviving are one daughter, Kimberly Ann (Rich) Drang, Rome City; nine sons, Leslie (Pat) Handshoe, West Virginia, Ed (Debbie) Handshoe, Shipshewana, Larry Handshoe, Michigan, Roger Handshoe, Stroh, Jimmy Handshoe, LaGrange, Kevin Handshoe, Ohio, Floyd Handshoe Jr., LaGrange, Gregory (Brook) Handshoe, Stroh, and Brent C.  Handshoe, LaGrange; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Arbutus Lykins, Willard, Ohio.

    He was preceded in death by two sons, David A. Handshoe and Brent A. Handshoe, three sisters, Maudie Ritchie, Tina Sturgil, and Fannie Turner, one brother, Clyde Handshoe, and a stepbrother, Arnie Barnett.

    Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday, December 22, at Young Family Funeral Home Wolcottville Chapel.

    Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, at Young Family Funeral Home Wolcottville Chapel with Pastor Larry Anglemyer Sr. officiating.

    Burial with honor guard services by Kendallville VFW Post 2749, Rome City American Legion Post 381, Kendallville American Legion Post 86, and active duty members of the U.S. Army will be in Woodruff Cemetery.
