Florence A. Notestine, 96, LaGrange, died Sunday, December 22, 2013 at her residence.
She was born July 21, 1917, in Milford Township, to Willard Leroy and Jennie Byrdena (Wehrly) Howe.
Living all her life in LaGrange County, she was a teacher from 1937-1989 and retired from Prairie Heights School Corporation. She was a member of Mongo United Methodist Church in Mongo and the UMW of the church. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Gray Panthers, NEA, LaGrange College Club, and Mongo Lions Club.
She was married December 11, 1941, in LaGrange, to Herman T. Notestine. He preceded her in death on December 27, 1971.
Surviving are eight nieces, Sue (John) Clifton, Kendallville, Ind., Jean (Stan) Hunter, Kentucky, Julia (Bruce) Eagleson, LaGrange, Jane (Bill) Dickie, Arizona, Maryellen Johnson, Garrett, Ind., Marlene (Paul) Carper, Wolcottville, Martha Howe, Albion, Ind., and Deb (Randy) Simon, Wolcottville; eight nephews, Larry (Grace) Spero, LaGrange, Steve (Sharon) Notestine, Kentucky, Stan (Deb) Notestine, LaGrange, Patrick (Cathy) Adams, Grand Rapids, Mich., Duane Howe, Stroh, Donald (Janet) Howe, Wolcottville, Mike (Kelly) Howe, LaGrange, and Mark (Lisa) Howe, Wolcottville; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lawrence Russell “Bud” Howe.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 29, in the Prairie Heights High School Auditorium with Reverend James Bartlett and Reverend Carldean Merrifield officiating.
Burial is in Brighton Cemetery, rural Howe.
