Fern Showalter

Fern Marie Showalter, 94, Goshen, formerly of Middlebury, died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Greencroft Health Care Center in Goshen.

    She was born July 10, 1919, in Shipshewana, to Noah and Sovilla (Blough) Hooley.

    She retired after working several years at Abitibi and was a homemaker and member of Pleasant View Mennonite Church, where she was active in the sewing circle. She also volunteered at Loveway in Bristol and The Depot in the Old Bag Factory in Goshen.

    She was married February 22, 1941, in LaGrange County, to Stahly Showalter. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2006.

    Surviving are four daughters, Phyllis (Carl) Metzler, Goshen, Darlene (Lynn) Miller, Elkhart, Dianne (David) Lehman, Goshen, and Delores (Mark) Showalter-Boyd, Lititz, Penn.; two sons, Lowell (Cindy) Showalter, Syracuse, Ind., and Ron (Tamylia) Showalter, Union, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Lois Hooley, Shipshewana.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Florence Rheinheimer, and three brothers, LaVerne, Francis and Ernest Hooley.

    Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at Pleasant View Mennonite Church in Goshen, followed by visitation from 4:30-6 p.m. and a celebration of life service at 6 p.m. with Pastor Tyler Hartman and Pastor Ron Diener officiating.

    Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
