Fairfield girls knock out Prairie Heights

Fairfield knocked off Prairie Heights, 56-41 in the semifinals of the 2014 NECC girls basketball tournament last Friday night in Emma.

An 18-7 spurt to start the game and a 17-4 run in the third quarter helped propel the Lady Falcons to their 11th victory in 13 outings. Jenna Kieper tallied 14 points to pace the victors. Haley Brown racked up 10 markers and eight rebounds.

Shawna Carbone spearheaded the Lady Panther effort with 16 points and nine rebounds. Tressa Terry chipped in 10 points and two assists.

West Noble, which handled Fremont by a count of 41-38 in the other semifinal Friday night, went on to beat Fairfield, 45-22 in the championship game Saturday night in Ligonier. Kelsie Peterson’s 23 points led the Lady Chargers to only their second NECC tourney title in program history.
