Fairfield edged Lakeland, 3-2 in an NECC softball showdown last Thursday night in Benton.
The Lady Falcons broke a 2-all deadlock with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Morgan Miller, whose RBI double in the third tied the game at 2-2, held the Lady Lakers scoreless over the final two frames to secure the Fairfield win.
Lakeland tallied both of its runs in the top of the third inning. Lexie Myers brought one home with a double, while a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jill Mingus plated the other.
Miller finished with eight strikeouts and walked one. Lady Laker hurler Ashlynn Grubb fanned nine and passed one in suffering the loss.
Lakeland stands 4-1 in the NECC and 7-4 overall.
